The mission of the Washtenaw County Bar Association is

  • To insist upon the highest standards of civility and ethical integrity of all participants in the legal process;
  • To improve public understanding of the legal system, the substantive law and the role of lawyers;
  • To pursue diversity and foster a sense of community among Association members;
  • To advance professional development and excellence through educational programs and services for its members;
  • To promote affordable access to the justice system through traditional and non-traditional means; and
  • To work with the bench to improve the effectiveness and fairness of the legal system.

Gordon Kangas is a proud, lifelong resident of Washtenaw County. He is an associate attorney with Bodman PLC and based in the firm's Ann Arbor office. He represents clients in a wide range of litigation and alternative dispute matters, including trademarks, contract disputes, and class actions.

After earning his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University, he founded a presentation consulting firm, advising professionals on effective presentation skills. He later earned his juris doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. Gordon previously clerked for the Hon. Ralph B. Guy, Jr., on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Hon. Stephen J. Murphy, III, on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Each year, Gordon enjoys volunteering with the Constitution Day initiative, teaching middle school students in Washtenaw County about their constitutional rights and the nation's history.
