Garden for Avalon*

The Washtenaw County Bar Association Public Service/Pro Bono Committee is again sponsoring Avalon Housing’s Gardening with Grace program, aimed at beautifying some of the Avalon properties with flower gardens.  In the past, 164 flats of flowers were planted by Avalon around 20 different sites – with nearly 6,000 individual plants brightening up those local neighborhoods!  Vegetable gardens at 15 sites harvested 3,500 lbs. of organic produce used by Avalon residents.

Avalon Housing provides permanent affordable and supportive rental housing for Washtenaw County’s lowest income households, with a priority for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and who have a mental or physical disability.  With the housing, Avalon also works to build communities, an important way to help people achieve self-sufficiency.  It reduces isolation, fosters peer support and inspires a collective sense of hope.

We are recruiting volunteers.  Judges, magistrates, attorneys, staff and family members are all invited to participate.  Please register below.

Thank you for your participation in this valuable community service!
